Obituary

Adam Clarkson, 43, and a gentle giant, died August 12 th , 2020 at Baylor Hospital, Waxahachie, TX after a short illness. His brother, Nick, was by his side.

A celebration of his amazing life that was cut way too short will be held on Saturday, September 5 th from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the home of his "sister" Colleen and her husband Justin in Waxahachie, TX. Colleen is the daughter of our closest family friends since the early 90's - Josephine (Fofo) and LJ Gray of Red Oak, TX.

Adam was born at The Royal Hospital in Wolverhampton, England on the 18 th May, 1977 to Kathleen and Stuart Clarkson. Kathy (deceased) was a finance manager at a prominent department store in town and a part-timer at The Mitre pub in Tettenhall. Stuart was a former paratrooper in the English Army and went on to be a master sheet-metal worker. Nick was his best friend and older brother by 13 years and retired as a US Army Special Forces Signal Officer in 2012.

Our family immigrated to Downey, CA from Tettenhall, Wolverhampton UK  in June 1978 and settled in Los Alamitos, CA in 1980. Kathy had an outstanding and long career with GTE Yellow Pages eventually transferring to Grand Prairie, TX in 1987. Stuart had an equally long and successful career with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Nick graduated from Los Alamitos HS in 1982, learned the plumbing trade at Standard Plumbing owned by close family friends Joe and Vera Manfro then joined the US Army in 1985.

Adam and I often joked about the irony of him being born in the UK and raised in the US and me being born in the US and raised in the UK.

Adam spent his young life in Los Alamitos attending Rossmoor pre-school, Lee Elementary and Oak Middle School and loved playing soccer and riding his bike. Eventually, he joined his mum in Grand Prairie, TX where he attended Grand Prairie, HS.

Adam was always as smart as a whip and a wizard at math and after high school went to work with a friend and neighbor, Paul Halton, as a surveyor for USA, Inc. in 1993 where he excelled and then went on to McCullough Surveying in Plano, TX. In 1997, Adam made a complete career change and joined his softball team-mate, best friend and owner of Chapparal Pest Control, Dusty Owen. Adam was his right-hand man for almost 20 years and was certified in numerous pest control applications. For the last few years, he worked at the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Wilmer, TX where in true form, excelled and made loads of new friends.

Adam was married to Kimberly Hooton from October, 2008 to January, 2013 and had a son, Nicholas Todd Clarkson, in July, 2009. Adam adored "Little" Nick who just turned 11 this year and was absolutely the light of his life. Adam especially enjoyed the time spent with Nick at his in-laws, Tom and Linda's ranch in East Texas. He found new love in 2014 with partner Christine and her daughter, Emma. He loved them all very much.

Adam's passions included softball, golf, TX Sports, (Cowboys, Rangers and The Mavs) and keeping track of our home-town soccer team – The Wolves. He was a master of the grill, especially cooking "brats" and loved BBQ and chicken wings – he may have owned stock in Wingstop and Hooter's.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a small donation to help cover expenses. All funds remaining will be donated to a charity in Adam's name that supports other "gentle giants".
