Obituary

Angus Knight Butler, age 90 went to be with his Heavenly Father on August 27,2017.

Angus was born July 17, 1927 in Verden, Oklahoma. He was the middle child of seven born to Frank and Edna (Kitching) Butler.  Angus' first year of school was in Chandler, Oklahoma the remainder  of his education was received in Agra, Oklahoma.

After finishing High School Angus was employed in several different occupations; he worked in the grain harvest going from Northwest Texas, Western Oklahoma, Kansas, Wyoming North and South Dakota. He spent a short time with his sister Faye and Ronald Brewer in California working in a Lemon Orchard.  After returning home he worked in Cushing, Oklahoma as an auto mechanic and then worked at Tinker Air Force base for one year.

On September 15, 1951 he married Geraldine Allie Inskeep from Chandler, Oklahoma. In January 1952 they moved to Odessa, Texas for a few months where he worked as an auto mechanic.  The same year they returned to Agra and worked at Drakes Grocery Store for seven years.  On October 04, 1953 the home was blessed with the birth of a son, Bruce Michael Butler.  In 1959 they bought a "Mom and Pop" store in Agra which they ran for ten years, the last three years they operated Butler's Cafe, a small country cafe in the same location.  During the time the store and cafe were in operation he also worked part time as a rural mail carrier in Agra.  After closing the grocery store and cafe he worked full time at the Chandler Post Office. Retirement came July 31, 1992 with thirty years of service. Throughout all of his working years after returning from Texas he was only out of work for one day.

Angus accepted the Lord as his personal Savior when he was 12 years old. He was faithful in his Christian life serving in several positions: Sunday School teacher for Junior and Intermediate age boys,  Assistant Treasurer and Sunday School Director.  He was ordained as a Deacon at Agra First Baptist Church and also served at the First Baptist Church in Chandler.  On May 06, 2012 he received a Deacon Emeritus recognition from Eastridge Baptist Church for 52 years of service as a Deacon.

In 2000, Angus and Geraldine moved from Chandler, OK to Red Oak, Texas to be near son Bruce.

Angus was preceded in death by his parents, younger brother JR, sister Rosie, brother Lawrence and sister Faye.

Survivors include: wife of 65 years, Geraldine; son Bruce and wife Denise; grandson Aaron and wife Kristin, great grandchildren Corban, Wyatt, and Colette; grandson Travis and wife Kelli; sisters Nova and Marquetta; other family and many friends.

Visitation is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30th at Eastridge Baptist Church, Red Oak with the Celebration of life following at 2 p.m.

Graveside service and burial will be Thursday, August 31st at Osage Cemetery Agra, Oklahoma at 2 p.m.
