IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Billy Joe
Freeman
September 8, 1928 – June 7, 2021
He built many beautiful homes, but none can compare to the one he has moved into now! He was known as a master carpenter here in Ellis County, but I can't imagine his joy of meeting "THE" Master Carpenter. And I'm pretty sure Grandma had lunch ready when he arrived (hope he wasn't late). Oh, what a reunion!
Billy Joe went to that Heavenly home on June 7th, 2021. He was 92 years old, born September 8, 1928 in Italy, Texas to Henry and Lucy Freeman. After graduating from Waxahachie High School, he attended Southwestern Assemblies of God College. On March 24th, 1951 he married Norma Murray of Sparks, OK. He joined the US Army in August of 1951 and served in the Korean War where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with a bronze star.
Billy always had a huge smile which everyone remarked about. Nothing made him happier than to have all of his family with him which included not only his children and grandchildren, but his many nieces and nephews and other extended family. His home was always overflowing with company which he enjoyed immensely. He was known as the class clown in school growing up and he always had everyone around him laughing up until his very last days. He also loved building and loved showing everyone all the houses, churches, and businesses he had built or worked on throughout the years. He also loved leading the Song Service at church, which he did for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed taking his family to every singing and revival he could.
Billy is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years; Norma Freeman, his dad; Henry Freeman, his mother; Lucy Freeman (Purvis), his brother; Travis Freeman, his sister; Joyce Stevenson, his son; Ronald Freeman, his grandson; Jason Freeman, and great-granddaughter; Echo Newman.
He is survived by his sister; Lois Cosby, his children; Billy and Kim Freeman of Tamms, IL, Brenda Freeman of Italy, TX, Toni and Craig Benner of Inola, OK, Marilyn and Jeff Bradley of Collinsville, OK, Sharon and Nick Flores of Waxahachie, TX, Larry Freeman of Italy, TX, and Jane and Larry Allston of Green Valley, AZ, 21 grandchildren and 33 great- grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
