Obituary

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life of service, we announce the passing of Captain Gilbert Floyd Pitts, Jr., United States Air Force (Ret.), who joined his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 12, 2025,
at the age of 81.

Gil was born on September 14, 1943, in Waco, Texas, to Gilbert Floyd Pitts, Sr., and Netta Jane (Smith) Pitts, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jaime Elizabeth Pitts, his brother, Timothy Frank Pitts, and sister-in-law, Jackie (Watson) Pitts. Gil was a man of unwavering faith, quiet strength, and deep commitment—to his country, his family, and Jesus Christ. He answered the call to serve by commissioning as an officer in the United States Air Force, where he rose to the rank of Captain. Throughout his military career, Captain Pitts exemplified duty, discipline, and integrity, earning the respect of all who served beside him.

Captain Pitts was known not only for his excellence in uniform but for how he carried himself beyond it. Gil served as a pastor for 13 years and was a professional musician for over 50 years. Gil graduated from the University of North Texas, where he played in the Lab Bands. He was also Air Force ROTC and was commissioned upon graduation. A man of humility and grace, Gil walked through life with a servant's heart. His faith was not just a belief—it was a way of life, visible in his kindness, generosity, and quiet wisdom. He loved deeply, forgave freely, and always stood for what was right.

He is now reunited with loved ones who went before him and welcomed into eternal rest by the Savior he faithfully served. Gil is survived by his adoring wife of almost 59 years, Dede Boyd Pitts; his devoted daughters, Angela Perry (Ron), Anne'drea Pitts Hatch (Jeremy), and Shelby Langford; and his loving grandchildren, Mollie McGinty, Connor Perry, Alex Tidmore, Toby Tidmore, Michael James Langford, Carter Langford, and Tinsley Hatch; several nieces and nephews; and a grateful nation who honors his life of service and sacrifice. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he loved, and the values he upheld.

A celebration of his life and homegoing will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Pathway Baptist Church in Waxahachie, Texas, with full military honors. Service begins at 11:00 am; Brunch will be available at 10:00 am. The interment will be at DFW National Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
