IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dale Cecil
Cummings
January 17, 1936 – March 7, 2023
Dale Cummings, 87, died peacefully on March 7 from complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Winterhaven, California into the family of Cecil Cummings and Lucile (Gibson) Cummings. He had an older sister, Dorothy (Cummings) Brooks, who died in 2019. Dale grew up in the San Diego area, graduating from Helix High School in La Mesa in 1954 before earning a bachelor's and master's degree at San Diego State University. He served in the US Army two years in Hawaii, and then began a teaching career in industrial arts, first in Poway, and then at Grossmont High School in El Cajon, California. He married Marcia, his wife of 60 years, in 1962. They had three children, two sons and a daughter. Dale earned a Doctorate of Education at Utah State University in Logan, Utah, after which he pursued a career in community college administration in Iowa, Texas, California, and Tennessee. Upon retirement Dale and his wife moved to Waxahachie, Texas and later relocated to Red Oak, Texas to be closer to their daughter and family.
In addition to his work as an educator, Dale was active in Baptist churches in the communities where he lived. He often taught Sunday School, served as a deacon, and directed or sang in the church choir. Dale and Marcia loved to travel, and during summers when their children were young they took a travel trailer visiting national and state parks all over the American West. Dale is survived by his wife Marcia, three children and their spouses, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
