Obituary

Daniel Frank Green, known to all of his friends and family as 'Danny', was born, November 17, 1944 in Dallas, Texas and passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side in Lancaster, Texas on May 13, 2017 at the age of 72. He is survived by his wife Linda of Lancaster, TX, his daughter Frances Green Carson, two grandchildren, Layla and Corbin Carson, of Midlothian, TX, and his sister, Dolores Green Long of Colfax, LA. He is preceded by his mother Gracie B. Ricketts, his father Frank C. Green, step-mother Violet Green and step-brother Bill Coplin.

In 1963, Danny graduated from South Oak Cliff High School and attended Arlington College, now the University of Texas at Arlington. From 1965 through 1970, Danny was in the United States Air Force and served in Germany as a mechanic on B-52 bombers during the Vietnam War era. In fact, Danny had a lifelong passion for airplanes, going to car races and gun shows.

Upon his return to civilian life, Danny was employed by Dresser Industries in Oak Cliff and continued with the company after its merger with Halliburton until he retired after 35 years. He served as a Commissioner with the Ellis County Emergency Services, District 2, from 1995 through 2012.

Danny and his beloved wife Linda have been members of First Baptist Church of Lancaster and he very often spoke of how much his church family meant to them. Danny also spoke of how much God had blessed and protected him throughout his life with a loving family, a satisfying career, and many wonderful friends.

If you ask those who knew Danny to describe him, one phrase would be common to almost everyone – "He was a friend." He was known as a "goofball" because he loved to be a prankster and joke around. He also loved to tell stories, qualities he inherited from both; his dad, Frank and his grandfather, Daniel Bert Green, for whom Danny was named. Like them, he never met a stranger and made lasting friendships very easily. His special delight, second only to time spent with his family and church was to gather with long-time school friends from his days at South Oak Cliff. He enjoyed the major reunions but he especially enjoyed the more frequent events such as the monthly men's breakfast and yearly Christmas gatherings.

Danny also loved joining Linda for shopping, his latest favorite place to spend shopping time was Costco. Even as his health deteriorated and his difficulty getting around increased, he could still find the strength to roam through at least a few aisles at Costco before becoming too tired. In his healthier days, he could find something to buy that he didn't need, but that he was convinced he'd need eventually. But more often than not, an item would catch his attention because he knew someone else who would enjoy having it. And so he would buy it and delight in giving it to whomever he had in mind. His all-time favorite items to buy at Costco were flashlights!

Somewhere in Danny's past he decided that his mission in life was to give flashlights to as many people as possible - friends, family, even total strangers. However, there was motive in Danny's flashlight madness. When he handed someone a flashlight, he often would say something like, "Here's a flashlight to help you remember that Jesus is the Light of the World".

Danny grew up in Ramona Ave. Baptist Church just a few blocks from his family home. He made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized there while in junior high school. From the time Danny accepted the invitation that is extended to all until his spirit left to join his Savior, he never doubted his eternal salvation. Danny's acceptance into the family of Almighty God was a gift purchased by the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made of Himself so that his sins would not be held against him. As is true of all of us, he knew both victory and defeat in his spiritual walk with the Lord. In his victories, he gave praise to God. In his defeats, he sought and found the immeasurable mercies of God praising Him all the more. One of Danny's greatest joys was to sing praises to His Lord, singing allowed him to declare what was so dear to his heart but difficult to express with his natural voice. Although it is difficult for us to say goodbye to the husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend that we have loved so much, his family rejoices in seeing him now as a member of heaven's choir singing like he's never sung before.
