Obituary

Dorothy Lou Lawhon Cole, 94, a beloved resident of Waxahachie, went to be with her Lord and her husband, Alva, on December 11, 2025. Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 15, 2025, with funeral services beginning at 11:00 AM at Waxahachie Funeral Home, with Chip Sebring of Southlake Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Branch Cemetery in Maypearl, Texas.

Dorothy was born on July 19, 1931, in Lamesa, Texas, to Robert and Pearl Lawhon. She married the love of her life, Alva Cole, on October 15, 1949, and together they built a life rich in faith, hard work, and unwavering devotion to family.

She is preceded in death by her husband; her daughters Carolyn Cole and Gail Nash; and one grandchild.

Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of love carried on by her daughters: Louise Mathers and husband Johnny; Ann Sillavan and husband Jackie; and Judy Flores and husband Steve. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren, all of whom were the joy of her life and never failed to light up her world.

A devoted homemaker, Dorothy dedicated her life to raising five strong and successful daughters. Living on more than two hundred acres gave her both purpose and peace, it was where she tended her garden and expressed her creativity through a wide array of artistic hobbies. Dorothy was exceptionally talented and found joy in painting, embroidery, needlework, quilting, and decoupage, pouring her heart into every piece she created. She also enjoyed a good game of bingo, cherished hymns, and old western shows, and found comfort in the simple, steady rhythm of country living. Dorothy and Alva shared over fifty-three wonderful years of marriage before his passing, and her love for him never wavered for the rest of her days.

Dorothy found great joy in traveling with friends and family, especially on her many trips to Branson, Missouri, one of her favorite places. She treasured her time at the Midlothian Senior Center, where she made lasting friendships and shared countless laughs. She loved the beauty of nature, especially red cardinals and bluebirds, which always seemed to appear just when she needed a reminder of comfort and peace. Each spring, she looked forward to Texas bluebonnets, her favorite wildflowers, finding joy in their brilliance and the way they blanketed the countryside she loved so dearly.

Dorothy's life was a testament to faith, resilience, and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.
