Genie L Prather passed away December 29, 2015, at her home in Waxahachie, Texas,  after an extended illness. She was born in Tulia, Texas, to Stanley Albert Prather and Mavis Hill Prather on July 18, 1957.

Genie graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1975 where she won first place in the state for her drafting skills. She earned her diploma from Capitol City Technical School in Austin, Texas, for Civil Drafting and Technical Illustration, then spent her career with civil engineering firms. Genie also attended Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas. Genie taught herself how to design and build websites and used professional computer applications to design art.

Genie was an accomplished artist, especially with oils and acrylics. She created many complex and beautiful works, most given by her to friends and family members. She won regional awards for her art and some pieces were shown in a prominent Dallas gallery. Her love of art translated into all of Genie's work – from gardens to interior design and renovation. Genie also wrote many poems in her lifetime, sharing them with close friends.

Genie believed in God and His miracles, and studied the bible and religious books, seeking His plan for her life.

Genie is preceded in death by her mother, Mavis Hill Prather, brothers, David Henry Prather and John Stanley Prather.

Survivors include her father, Stanley Albert Prather and step-mother Glenna F. Prather of Waxahachie Texas, brother Mark Neil Prather of Terrell, Texas, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Waxahachie Funeral Home 2 o'clock Saturday, the 16th day of January, 2016.
