Gertrude Elizabeth (Dudte) Jeter 1911 - 2013 Gertrude Elizabeth Dudte was born on November 22, 1911, in Harvey County, Kansas to John Lewis Dudte and Anna Tangemann Dudte. She passed away on January 15, 2013, at Ozark Riverview Manor in Ozark, Missouri. She gave her life to her Lord Jesus Christ at an early age and consistently served Him until her death. While in high school, she won several state awards for her shorthand and bookkeeping skills. After graduating from Newton High School, she worked at a local bank and served in her home church until she went to Enid, Oklahoma to enroll in Southwestern Bible School. While at Southwestern, she served as secretary to President P.C. Nelson. She graduated in 1936 after simultaneously being a student and a part-time instructor in typing and shorthand. Later, she was called to Springfield, Missouri, where she served as secretary to Assemblies of God Foreign Missions Department Director, Noel Perkin. Her time in Missouri was cut short, however, when she contracted typhoid fever and came close to death. She was prayed for and God intervened, raising her up from her death bed, but she had to return to Kansas for an extended time of recuperation. In 1941, after a long period of correspondence, Gertrude married Hugh Jeter, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, who was a widowed missionary in Peru. Soon after their marriage, they departed the United States and went to Cuba to engage in missionary ministry. They remained there until 1952, during which time four boys were born to them: Stanley, Robert, and twins Donald and Douglas. Their daughter Betty was born later in Springfield, Missouri. After their time in Cuba, Gertrude and her family spent nearly a year in missionary ministry in Spain, and then moved to Tangier, Morocco, where they continued in missionary work until 1958. Returning to the United States, the Jeters moved to Waxahachie, Texas, where Mrs. Jeter worked as a bookkeeper while Mr. Jeter served on the faculty at Southwestern Assemblies of God Bible College, later re-named Southwestern Assemblies of God University. They were members of University Assembly of God Church where she was organist. In 1977, the Jeters retired from Southwestern and moved to Arizona, where they had similar ministry at Southern Arizona Bible College, a Hispanic college, in Hereford, Arizona, for ten years. After her husband's death in 2004, Gertrude continued to live in Waxahachie for several years, and then moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, to live with her eldest son, Stanley, and his family in their home. They lovingly cared for her until November of 2012, when she moved to a nursing home facility in Ozark, Missouri. She was a blessing everywhere she lived and continued to touch lives with her loving, gentle spirit until the end. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh P. Jeter. She is survived by her children: Stan and his wife Rhoda of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Robert and his wife Linda of Waxahachie; Don and his wife Cyndie of Springfield, Missouri; Doug and his wife Raynan of Ozark, Missouri; Betty and her husband Robby Jernigan of Marshfield, Missouri. She is survived by 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, as well as siblings Harry Dudte, Dorothy Unruh, and Jessie Allen, of Newton, Kansas, and Elsie Johnson of Maple Valley, Washington. She has many nieces and nephews who love and admire their Aunt Gertrude, and a host of fellow-workers and friends she has touched throughout her long and fruitful life. Visitation will be held at Waxahachie Funeral Home on Saturday, January 19,2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at University Assembly of God, 221 Solon Road, Waxahachie, TX, at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, January 20, 2013. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. A scholarship fund was set up at Southwestern Assemblies of God University following Mr. Jeter's death in 2004, and memorials may be made to the Hugh P.
