James Hardy Pruett Jr. was born in Waxahachie on Sunday, January 22, 1956, and passed away peacefully at home in Waxahachie on Thursday, May 18th, 2023. James was preceded in death by his father, James Hardy Pruett Sr., and his mother Marguerite Harvey Pruett. He was born the only child to his parents. He was loving and extremely dedicated to his parents, especially in their later years. James would often say how thankful he was when he could spend time with them, whether just stopping by to visit or helping them with anything they needed.

James graduated from Waxahachie High School and continued his education at the University of Texas at Arlington where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in business. After finishing his college career, James returned home to run the family business, Thrifty Shoe Mart. He would later own this business that was a staple in the community for many years. He teamed with the local high school to allow students to earn an income while learning business and entrepreneurial skills. Over the years, James became affectionately known by many nicknames, including James, Jimmy, Jim, JP and "Gunslinger". James was an avid gun collector and an enthusiast and held a CHL.

James had a passion for his Harley motorcycle and loved that feel free spirit he would get when he rode it. James had a larger-than-life personality and enjoyed his earthly time as much as anyone could. He left behind many friends who will miss him greatly and appreciate all the fantastic memories and cherished the time that he spent with all of us.
