Obituary

Our loving and devoted father, Mr. Jimmie Lee Crenshaw, Sr., 88, passed away April 22, 2017 at home with his family at his side. He was born June 18, 1928 in Forreston, Texas to Jesse and Annie Laura Palmer Crenshaw and was a lifelong resident of Ellis County.

He was married for over 60 years to Jewel Marie Hardeman Crenshaw.

Jimmie is the proud father of ten children.  He is survived by five sons: Jimmie Lee Crenshaw, Jr., (wife Doris), Phillip Crenshaw (wife Audra), Steven Crenshaw, Barry Crenshaw and Stuart Crenshaw (wife Kilah); five daughters, Sheryl Cash (very special son-in-law Jesse), Elaine Johnson, Karen Crenshaw, Rita Talton (husband Sherman), and Juandra Crenshaw; brothers Clarence Crenshaw and Carl Crenshaw; 24 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Jewel Crenshaw, his brother Charlie Crenshaw, and his sister Jessie Mae Crenshaw.

Jimmie dedicated his life to the true God, Jehovah on February 15, 2003.  He knew death is not a reward but was a result of disobedience, his hope was anchored in the Bible's promise at 1 Corinthians 15:26 that mankind's enemy death will soon be done away.  He thoroughly enjoyed speaking with others about the future fulfillment of another one of the Bible's promises at Revelation 21:3-4.

Jimmie was the oldest of four and was called upon to forgo further secular education at an early age to lovingly assist with his younger siblings.  He was Waxahachie's first African American Milkman and passed on to his children the value of honesty and hard work.  He worked over road long haul but as the demands grew for him to be closer to home, he worked for A&P Grocers, retiring after over 20 years.  As the family continued to grow, he formed Crenshaw's & Sons Janitorial Service and continued to shape the value of his family.  Many may remember his smile and kind demeanor at J.C. Penney, where he retired after working for 25 years.

He loved fishing and camping with his wife at the lake in their RV, and nothing brought him more joy than seeing his offspring having fun at family gatherings.

He left us a legacy that will endure forever and we know he's in the safest place possible, Jehovah's memory. We prayerfully look forward to the day we welcome back both our parents for those Bible studies we remember; this time dad won't fall asleep from exhaustion and we will have the best family get together ever!
