Obituary

Joseph Huneke, of Waxahachie, TX, died unexpectedly on the evening of September 20, 2024, while doing what he loved to do – working on the land at his residence. He was only 60 years old. Joseph was born in Andrews, TX, on October 1, 1963, to Carlton and Lynda Huneke. He attended Round Rock High School for a couple of years, and then at the age of 15, began working in the oil field as an electrician.

In 1996, Joseph relocated further north, where he graduated from Dallas Life Challenge in 1998. Utilizing his 20 years of experience as an electrician, Joseph then chose to make Waxahachie, TX his permanent home – by accepting the position as electrician for Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU).

Joseph's dream was to have his own Electrical Contracting company, which he started making possible by doing small jobs himself during his free time. A few years later, he started acquiring employees and clientele. In July of 2003, his dream became official, when Huneke Enterprises, LLC was born. He and his former wife Laurie Vicalvi, worked together to build not just a company to fulfill his dream, but ultimately a legacy.

For the next 21 years, Joseph poured his heart and soul into Huneke Enterprises, while continuing to give his time and heart to both SAGU and Life Challenge – two organizations which he always credited for enabling him the opportunity to fulfill his dream. The hundreds of employees that have been employed since the start of Huneke Enterprises, were always so much more than that. They were literally an extension of his family. In the same way, it was often noted by the contractors that Huneke Enterprises worked for, that the company's work ethic and integrity stood
out among others. That was a testament to how Joseph strived to live.

Though Joseph had plenty of things which would be considered great accomplishments, he would be the first to say that his greatest accomplishment, and the thing that brought him the most pride, was being a dad. His son Timothy (19), and daughter Naomi (16), were his pride and joy. They genuinely made his green eyes sparkle even more than they naturally did. Whether they were having fun out on their land, skiing down snow covered slopes, or at events where the kids were participating, and Joseph was cheering loudly on the sidelines – they were what kept him young; what inspired him to work hard at everything he did. He wanted to give them the world.

Joseph not only adored his children, he was extremely loyal and devoted to the rest of his family. The memories that each of his nephews and nieces had the privilege to make with him, are ones that will be forever cherished. He jokingly was referred to as the funcle – the 'fun uncle' - and memories such as him buying the 'expensive ice cream' or sitting on his lap eating a bag full of cherries, are just a couple that
have often been shared.

Joseph was also an extreme animal lover. Whether it was the multiple dogs and cats he had throughout his life that he considered and treated as a part of the family, or the farm animals he raised and viewed as more than a 'hobby'. It was not surprising that in his time of passing, his trustworthy four-legged companion Brutus, was by his side and stayed by his side.

Joseph was a gentle giant, with a heart of gold. He would do whatever he could when others were in need – giving of both his time and money. He touched many lives, and there are many who can honestly say that he saved their life. He will never be forgotten.

Joseph is preceded in death by his mother Lynda Huneke, and his father Carlton Huneke. Joseph is survived by: two children, Timothy and Naomi; two brothers Michael and David; two sisters-in- law, Star and Tiffiny; five nephews, Travis, William, Christian, Dylan, and Nathan; six nieces, Missy, Becky, Rachel, Hope, Trinity, and Ashlynn; three great-nephews, Billy, Sam, and Oliver; two great-nieces, Aurora and Charlie; his former wife and mother of his children, Laurie Vicalvi; his former wife, Michelle, whom he fondly referred to as his Rose Petal; as well as an abundance of extended family and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at 4:00pm on Sunday, October 20 th , 2024 at Oaks Church (777 S I35E, Red Oak, TX 75154).

Please join us in wearing green. Our desire is to not only represent Joseph's favorite color, but to also reflect on one of the reasons WHY it was his favorite color – which is its representation of life. May we embrace the life that Joseph lived, as well as the life he left behind.
