Obituary

Helen "Juanita" Murray Cates was born on April 20, 1928 to Elmer Murray and Mary Emma Scroggins Murray in Midlothian, TX. She passed away in Tyler, TX on June 10, 2012. She lived for a long period of her life in the Sardis community and was a professional garment seamstress for her entire life. If there were something that needed to be sewn, Juanita would be the one to call. Juanita was never blessed with riches of monetary value, but she was blessed with the love of her children, 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren. After losing her husband in 1997, she enjoyed traveling with family and friends. For the past 12 years she lived with her eldest son, Robert Billings in Scurry Texas. Juanita was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Scurry, Texas, where she had some very dear friends that she went places with and played cards weekly at one of their homes until her health diminished. Juanita enjoyed spending time visiting with the rest of her children and sister Jessie. She enjoyed playing solitaire on the computer, singing gospel hymns with her children at family gatherings, going shopping and going out to eat with her family. Juanita leaves behind her children to cherish her memory. Daughters - Carolyn Case & husband Odell of Angleton, Texas. Oleta Norris & husband Johnny Paul of Mineola, Texas. Peggy Brady & Husband Mark of Waxahachie, Texas. Becky Brady & husband Ricky of Waxahachie, Texas. Sons- Robert Billings & wife Cendy of Scurry, Texas. Jay Townson of Tyler, Texas. David Townson & wife Karen of Wills Point, Texas. Danny Cates & wife Janet of Italy, Texas Her sisters Jessie Aydelott of Orange, Texas, Lois Maxwell of Marpearl, Texas brother Jack Murray & wife Pat of Waxahachie, Texas and one sister-in-law Sylvia Murray of Midlothian Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. Juanita was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Vernon Cates. Her parents Elmer & Mary Emma Murray, Her brothers Sonny Murray, Hugh Murray, Yancey Murray and Donald Murray. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 12, 2012, 6-8 PM at Waxahachie Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 13, 2012 in the chapel of Waxahachie Funeral Home. With Rev.Garris Baggett and Rev. David Burcham officiating. Burial will follow in the Sardis Cemetery. Pallbearers are her grandsons Darren Brooks, Brandon Billings, J. P. Norris, Cody Townson, Tyler Brady, David Shane Townson, Tanner Brady, & Dennis Cates. Honorary pallbearers are Brian Billings, Curtis Billings, Preston Billings, Jeremy Townson, Justin Townson, & J.R. Cates.
