Marcia Cummings, 89, died peacefully on March 4, 2025. She was born January 2, 1936, in Los Angeles, California into the family of Scott and Alice (Rust) Nelson. She was preceded in death, by her older sister Joyce (Nelson) Matock and her loving husband of 60 years, Dale Cummings. Marcia grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, and earned a bachelor's degree at Arizona State University in Tempe in 1958. She then moved to the San Diego area to begin her career as an elementary school teacher. One night while attending a bible study she met Dale, also a teacher, and they married in 1962. They had three children, two sons and a daughter, all born in El Cajon, California. In 1976, the family moved to Logan, Utah, where Dale continued his education. Marcia and Dale would go on to move to Iowa, Texas, California, and Tennessee to pursue job opportunities. Upon retirement Dale and Marcia moved to Waxahachie, Texas and later relocated to Red Oak, Texas, to be closer to their daughter and family. Marcia cherished her family and loved to travel with them. When her children were young, the family spent summers in a travel trailer visiting national and state parks all over the American West. Marcia was also a voracious reader and enjoyed visiting the local library and used book stores. Marcia had the 'gift of the gab' and never knew a stranger. She loved to share stories about her family, and as a committed Christian, never passed up a chance to share her love of Jesus with others. She was always active in her local church, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school. Marcia is survived by her stepbrother: Gary Gemmell of Scottsdale, AZ, her three children: Bruce (Alicia) Cummings of Dixon, CA, Karen (Dan) Steiner of Red Oak, TX, and Mark (Mandy) Cummings of Mansfield, TX, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
