Margarita De La Hoya Zavala

Margarita De Le Hoya Zavala , age 70, of Waxahachie, Texas, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly, on February 9, 2026.

A Life of Determination and Faith
Born in Ignacio Ramirez, Durango, Mexico, to Timoteo De La Hoya Sr. and Dolores Jimenez, Margarita's life was a testament to resilience. At age 22, she moved to the United States with her husband and child. Despite arriving without a high school education and facing significant odds, Margarita's work ethic and determination allowed her to buy a home and build a flourishing life for her family in this country.

Margarita was a woman of deep and unwavering faith. She was a dedicated member of Bethesda Assemblies of God, where she found great joy and community under the leadership of her beloved pastors, Rudy and Fran DeLeon.

The Heart of the Family
Known as a "master crafter," Margarita's hands were rarely still; she loved to knit and sew, creating pieces as intricate as the family bonds she nurtured. She was also widely recognized as the best cook in the family, a title she earned through decades of hosting and nourishing those she loved.

Her dedication to motherhood was boundless. After successfully raising her two children, Margarita chose to take on the responsibility of raising more toddlers and children well into her 50s. She was the undisputed rock of her family—loving fiercely, protecting always, and leaving an indelible mark on every soul she touched.

Family Legacy
Margarita is preceded in death by her parents, Timoteo De La Hoya Sr. and Dolores Jimenez.

She is survived by her devoted children, Laura Villarreal (and husband Joseph) and Leonardo Zavala . Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Joseph Villarreal III, Alyssa Villarreal Short (and husband David), Adam Villarreal (and wife Dahlia), Benjamin Zavala, Ariel Zavala, Leonardo Zavala Jr., Gabby Zavala, Abby Zavala, Dolores Zavala , and Nick Cameron , as well as several beloved great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her siblings: Dionicio De La Hoya (Graciela), Timoteo De la Hoya (Blanca), Consuelo De La Hoya (Felipe), Enedina De La Hoya (Jose Luis), Yolanda De La Hoya (Nemorio), and Maria De La Luiz De La Hoya (Samuel), along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss her dearly.

The family will receive friends and loved ones for visitation on Friday, February 13th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at: Waxahachie Funeral Home 1201 W Highway 287 Bypass Waxahachie, TX 75165

A funeral service celebrating Margarita's life will be held on Saturday, February 14th, at 10:00 AM at: 2848 Brown St. Waxahachie, TX 75165

Una Vida de Determinación y Fe

Nacida en Ignacio Ramírez, Durango, México, hija de Timoteo De La Hoya Sr. y Dolores Jiménez, la vida de Margarita fue un testimonio de resiliencia. A los 22 años, se mudó a los Estados Unidos con su esposo e hijo. A pesar de llegar sin una educación secundaria y enfrentando grandes adversidades, la ética de trabajo y la determinación de Margarita le permitieron comprar su propia casa y construir una vida próspera para su familia en este país.

Margarita fue una mujer de una fe profunda e inquebrantable. Fue una miembro dedicada de la iglesia Bethesda Assemblies of God, donde encontró gran gozo y comunidad bajo el liderazgo de sus amados pastores, Rudy y Fran DeLeon.

El Corazón de la Familia

Conocida como una "maestra artesana", las manos de Margarita rara vez estaban quietas; le encantaba tejer y coser, creando piezas tan intrincadas como los lazos familiares que ella misma cultivaba. También era reconocida por todos como la mejor cocinera de la familia, un título que se ganó tras décadas de recibir y alimentar a sus seres queridos.

Su dedicación a la maternidad no tuvo límites. Después de criar con éxito a sus dos hijos, Margarita decidió asumir la responsabilidad de criar a más niños pequeños cuando ya estaba en sus 50 años. Ella era el pilar indiscutible de su familia: amaba con fiereza, protegía siempre y dejó una huella imborrable en cada alma que conoció.

Legado Familiar
Margarita precede en su partida a sus padres, Timoteo De La Hoya Sr. y Dolores Jiménez .

Le sobreviven sus devotos hijos, Laura Villarreal ( y su esposo Joseph) y Leonardo Zavala. Su legado vive a través de sus nietos: Joseph Villarreal III, Alyssa Villarreal Short (y su esposo David), Adam Villarreal (y su esposa Dahlia), Benjamin Zavala, Ariel Zavala, Leonardo Zavala Jr., Gabby Zavala, Abby Zavala, Dolores Zavala y Nick Cameron , así como varios bisnietos queridos.

También le sobreviven sus hermanos: Dionicio De La Hoya (Graciela), Timoteo De la Hoya (Blanca), Consuelo De La Hoya (Felipe), Enedina De La Hoya (José Luis), Yolanda De La Hoya (Nemorio) y María De La Luiz De La Hoya (Samuel), junto con muchos sobrinos, sobrinas y familiares extendidos que la extrañarán profundamente.
