Obituary

Marvin Shortes, went to be with his Lord at the age of 71. He was born in Guatemala City on July 8, 1951 to Quentin and Ruby Shortes. Marvin lived in Guatemala until he was 17, where his family were missionaries. He then came to Texas where he earned his Associate's Degree at Southwestern Assemblies of God College, his Bachelor's at Texas Tech, and his Masters Degree in Spanish at the University of Texas at Arlington. He went on to teach Spanish for over three decades at SAGU and Navarro College.
Marvin loved the outdoors. He enjoyed skiing, boating, golfing, scuba diving, lifeguarding, racquetball, camping, and was a licensed pilot. He was a devoted husband and father who's faith in Christ was unwavering.
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Sheryl Quenell Shortes and sister-in-law Sylvia Shortes.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 36 years Glynis Shortes, son Marcus Shortes and wife Annette, sister Sherri Shull and husband Ron, brother Ron Shortes and wife Lonnita, granddaughter Ruby Shortes and multiple nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Marvin will be held at University Church in Waxahachie, Texas on Saturday, September 17th at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, the Shortes family is requesting that donations be made to the Quentin Shortes Bible Institute of Guatemala, a cause very near and dear to Marvin's heart.
