Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beautiful parents, Peter and Darlene Adamson. They will be fondly remembered for the love they shared for each other, constantly demonstrating what the word "love" truly means.  Peter and Darlene lived life to the fullest and always gave selflessly while making many sacrifices over the years. Being around them made one want to be a better person. Peter and Darlene loved to travel and enjoyed countless adventures together. Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, called them home on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at the beginning of one of their many winter/spring adventures to Florida.

Peter Adamson was born on June 6, 1949 in Monroe, Wisconsin to Gus and Veryl Adamson.  Darlene Adamson was born on April 24, 1954 in Burlington, Wisconsin to Marion and Nyla Dickau. Peter and Darlene married on July 2, 1972.  Their infinite love for each other was also shared among their four children Kendra, Angela, Kara & Aaron.  Together, they spent over 50 years devoted to each other and their family unconditionally.

Peter grew up on a farm in Wisconsin learning about hard work at a very young age.  When he met the love of his life, Darlene, in 1972, they married within a couple of months on July 2, 1972.  In the summer of 1978, Peter and Darlene, expecting their fourth child, made the decision to leave Wisconsin to move to Texas for Peter to attend Southwestern Assemblies of God College. God called Peter to begin building churches.  He built churches in Texas, South Carolina, New Mexico, New England, and all the while having a home in Waxahachie, Texas.  As the children grew older, Peter and Darlene decided it was in their best interest to stay settled in Waxahachie where he bought Southwestern Church Furniture business.  He later went on to commercial construction, building multiple new plants and remodeling existing ones for Kodak.  After that, he moved on to insurance adjusting for a few years.  Although Peter was coasting down to retirement, his knowledge & expertise was called into action one more time.  His final construction project was the home office of Duluth Trading Co, in Wisconsin.  Upon successful completion there, he officially retired and came back to his home in Waxahachie. Peter loved to stay busy, so even while traveling with Darlene, he found some time to perform insurance claims remotely.

Regardless of his commitment to work, Peter's number one priority was taking care of his family. Peter was a very humble man who never sought praise for anything he did for his family or friends. He tirelessly worked hard to support his family, giving his children the best he could within his power. If someone was in need, Peter would stop whatever he was doing to go help. There was no end to the kindness he offered.

Like Peter, Darlene also grew up on a farm in Wisconsin.  There, she learned about hard work at a very young age which is one of the many reasons why they fit so well together.  Darlene was a patient, kind, loving, supportive wife and mother.  During Peter's job travels, she raised their four children, guiding and living by example, while helping Peter with decision-making for the family. Darlene handled the bookwork for the family and the business.  Darlene had a passion for decorating and details.  For a few years, she worked as a home decorator for home remodels and new construction.  In addition to planning her own children's weddings, she also helped plan weddings for her friends' children.  In recent years, she worked as the stage decorator for dance recitals for one of her daughter's businesses.

Darlene had an open door for all her family and friends.  She had a smile and laugh that lit up the room and a gentle, loving heart big enough to help anyone in need.  She was always there to help, listen, guide, or hold your hand.  Darlene touched more lives than even she knew.  She was a compassionate soul who loved her dogs like they were her children.  Her kindness had no limits.

Together, Peter and Darlene were the prime example of what lasting love in marriage should be. They chose to put each other first making a tremendous effort to go on dates keeping their love fresh.  Together, they worked through the difficult times & all of the challenges that life threw at them.  They continued to choose faith over fear believing that God would always take care of them and work out any struggles that came their way.  They cherished every moment they shared with their children, grandchildren, and friends.  They enjoyed the rodeo life, grandchildren's special events such as baseball, football, volleyball, soccer games, competitive skeet shooting, and school plays, etc.  If a family member or friend called upon them, they were there to support them together.  They were both good listeners and offered sound advice if someone was in need.  They treasured every single family gathering and always looked forward to the holidays for everyone to be together to reflect on the season.  Peter and Darlene had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last summer in Broken Bow, Oklahoma with their children and grandchildren.  At the end of the weekend family trip, Peter's speech expressing his & Darlene's gratitude didn't leave a dry eye in the room.  There will be comfort in knowing that they are together celebrating their love for each other eternally in heaven with Jesus.

They are preceded in death by Peter's parents, Gus and Veryl Adamson, brother Donald Adamson, brother-in-law Jim Brown, Darlene's parents, Marion and Nyla Dickau, close family friend Fred Burkhalter, and two very special family members Donald and Ardelle Sellnow.
