IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert "Ben"
Benjamin Hughes Skelton
August 27, 1956 – December 31, 2021
Dr. Robert Benjamin Hughes Skelton, 65, of Waxahachie, Texas, passed away on December 31, 2021. He was born August 27, 1956 in Dallas, Texas, to Beverly Anne Beard Skelton and Harris Henry Skelton. Dr. Skelton passed away suddenly at home after sitting down to play games with his family. With Ben's keen sense of humor, it's likely he would have had something funny to say about that.
Ben grew up in North Dallas; he had many friends and some unusual pets, including a giant boa constrictor he liked taking into the swimming pool. Ben was always adventurous and loved being outdoors. He worked with his dad while attending St. Marks, later graduating from Hillcrest High School in 1974 before going to college in Oklahoma. He loved trucks, automobiles and motorcycles and became a certified Master Mechanic. Being the youngest of four children, Ben's greatest dream was to have a big family. His dream began coming true when he decided to pursue a career in respiratory therapy at Dallas College El Centro Campus. He met Rebecca Baker, the absolute love of his life, in August 1985. He graduated in May 1987 and the couple married in August that year. Ben and Rebecca worked together as respiratory therapists at Methodist Dallas, until he was accepted into medical school and chiropractic school, ultimately choosing chiropractic. In December 1992, Ben received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Parker University.
He opened Skelton Chiropractic in Waxahachie in January 1993. Being such a tall, imposing figure, and coupled with that unquenchable sense of humor, Ben called himself Waxahachie's Largest Chiropractor. His business number was 972-938-PAIN.
Ben's family was growing along with his career. Madison arrived in November 1991, and Alexandra followed in May 1993 --- two precious angels that remained the apple of their father's eye. The family was completed with two sons that Ben adored: Javier, 24, and Daniel, 19. Ben was blessed with a successful career and a superlative family; he touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife and children, big sisters Penelope Lary and Rebecca Dickman (Jay), mother-in-law; Jimmie Baker, brother-in-law; Rennie Baker (Lector), sister-in-law; Rhonda Baker Roberts (Kenny), along with nieces, nephews and great-nieces.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 7, from 5-7 p.m, at First Assembly of God, 701 West Highway 287 By-Pass, Waxahachie.
A Celebration of Ben's Life will follow Saturday, January 8, at 10:00 a.m. at First Assembly of God Waxahachie.
