Obituary

Susan Ann (Perkins) Sokoll passed away in her home, surrounded by love and family, on Saturday, April 26, 2014. Susan was born in Dallas, Texas on September 8, 1942 to O.N. and Eva Perkins. She and her sister Linda Perkins Eberts, of Kansas City, MO, lived with their parents in Dallas, Corpus Christi and Lubbock as children; they spent summers in the beautiful Ozark Mountains of southern Missouri with their grandparents. She graduated from Lubbock High School and did coursework at West Texas State, South Plains College and Mountain View Community College. Susan met her husband and the yang to her yin, Robert W. Sokoll, through mutual friends in Lubbock, Texas and they married there on July 10, 1965. Together they raised three daughters and lived in several Texas towns where Bob was City Manager. Susan spread her special talents and shared her free spirit through good work in the community such as painting city signs, building children's theater sets, crafting holiday décor for the local church, leading historic preservation initiatives, and many other endeavors. Susan was an accomplished artist, especially in the mediums of paint and clay. She taught numerous children the joy of art, loved creating things, and turning her thrift finds into treasures. She had an eye for beauty and a love for family history and heirlooms, as demonstrated by her numerous collections and historic home. Susan was preceded in death by her parents O.N. and Eva Perkins, loving husband Robert W. Sokoll, eldest daughter Shanna Noelle Sokoll, grandparents Maggie and Esco Huitt and Lou and Bill Perkins. Survivors include daughter Tobin Sokoll Davis and her husband Kirk Davis, of Waxahachie, daughter Katha Sokoll of Austin, grandchildren Jake and Emma Davis of Waxahachie, Leo and Max Melton of Austin, sister Linda Eberts Perkins of Kansas City, MO, many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
