Vernon Harold
Roper
August 1, 1923 – August 11, 2017
Vernon Roper was born August 1, 1923 in Darrouzett, Texas to
Ivan and Annie Maude (Lash) Roper. Vernon was preceded in death by
his beloved wife of 60 years, Billye (Payne) Roper in 2003. He was
also preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and five brothers.
Vernon was an active member of First United Methodist Church
and the Fidelis Class, where he served as president numerous times. He
joined Bethel Methodist Church following health problems. He was a
member of the Rotary Club and the Italy Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Roper served in the United States Army during World War II,
serving under Generals Patton and Bradley in five battle campaigns,
including France and Germany.
Vernon worked for the Department of Housing and Urban
Development for 25 years, serving as manager until his retirement in
1986. Following his retirement, he started the Roper Appraisal
business, which he operated with the help of his favorite secretary--his
treasured wife Billye, until 1996.
Mr. Roper is survived by his three children- Kerry Roper and
wife Vicki of Houston,Texas; Debby Leake and husband Pierce of Italy,
Texas; and Randy Roper and wife Faye of Italy, Texas; eight
grandchildren- Dina & Britt Sims, Brian & Amy Leake, Kara & Michael
Rodriguez, Keli and Terence Herten-Greaven, Randall and Jodi Roper,
Georgie & Clayton Swize, Nolan Fowler, and Rise & Glen Jones; and 20
great-grandchildren (in order by age)- Ryan Heflin, Kaley Heflin,
Brianna Leake, Chase Vaughan, Brittany Leake, Derek Rodriguez, Sara
Sims, Gracie Rodriguez, Zackary Leake, Samantha Fowler, Frankie
Fowler, Leah Rodriguez, Elle Jones, Addyson Roper, Cate Swize, Brooke
Leake, Reagan Swize, Lane Roper, Sydney Herten-Greaven, and Brody
Leake.
Funeral Service will be 10 AM, Tuesday August 15, 2017, at Waxahachie Funeral Home.
Interment will follow at Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery1:00 PM.
