Obituary

Virdie Slaughter, 89,  went to her eternal home surrounded by her family March 3, 2023.  She was born in Italy Texas, November 3, 1933 to James and Ina Hopkins.

Momma accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and Lord at an early age.  Even though Jesus lived in her and through her, she longed for the day when she would meet Jesus face to face in that glorious place called Heaven.  Her riches were not in this world and neither was her faith and trust.  She was blessed with a loving husband whom she married in 1951 Jimmy.  God blessed her with four wonderful children Sherry, Dale, Dan, and Judy.  Momma was the spiritual leader of our family.  There was no compromising when it came to living for Jesus.  Even when each of us married and went our separate ways there was always a delight when we would come together around momma and daddy.  She was the one that not only our family but those that knew her, could depend on her to intercede in prayer for whatever need.  She believed in the power of prayer. She knew that God not only heard but answered her prayers.  There was no wavering of her faith in Jesus Christ.  "On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand".

With broken but grateful hearts, Momma has gone to be with Jesus.  We can only imagine her excitement when she saw the splendor of Heaven and met Jesus face to face.  There was a great reunion in Heaven with her parents, our Daddy Jimmy, brother Dale, sister Judy, grandsons Billy Wayne and Clint.  For the first time in here life, she will be meeting the two babies that she never had the joy of raising.  She is also celebrating with her 12 brothers and sisters that have gone before her.  One day soon, we will be joining her and other family members and friends.

She is survived by daughter Sherry Slaughter Moon and husband Billy, son Dan Slaughter and wife Debi, grandsons JD, Jesse, Jake, Cary, Clay, granddaughters Marjie, Leigh Anne, Janice and many other family members.

We will be celebrating her life and "her going home" on Friday, March 10, 2023 at Waxahachie Funeral Home, Visitation will be at 10 AM, Service will be at 11AM with interment following at Red Oak, Cemetery.
