Obituary

Gail McLemore Fikes, 89, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026, surrounded by her family. Gail was born on April 27, 1937, to the late William Delbert (“Mack”) and Jimmie Beringer Hudson McLemore in Howard, Texas. She moved to Waxahachie at eight years of age and graduated from Waxahachie High School in the class of 1955.

Throughout her life, Gail was successful in working for the Waxahachie Bank & Trust Company, the Christian Fidelity Insurance Company, and the Boze-Mitchell McKibben Funeral Home. As a professional in customer service, her personal talents shown through with her creativity, empathy and problem solving. She made her customers feel important and valued.

Her competitive spirit and dedication led Gail to become a member of the Women’s Bowling Association. For over twenty years, she was on a bowling team, her highest game bowled being 299. She made many friends along the way.

Gail was raised in the Church of Christ. She was a lifelong member of the Church, which sustained her faith in God, giving her a deeper sense of personal purpose.

Gail was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dannie Fikes, by her sister, Kathleen McLemore Butler and her brother, Jimmy Richard McLemore. She is survived by her two beloved sons, Lance Boyd, (Harry) of New York City and Dane Southerland (Janella) of Waxahachie; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
